Who we are
Motherbear is a femme-focused nightclub event, based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. Our current home is LCKR room, located on Smith Street in Collingwood.
We are a sanctuary born & built for femmes, enbies and the gloriously fluid.
We welcome all allies with open arms (yes even you straight boys) just remember whose house you're in.
Motherbear isn’t just an event, it is an overwhelming rage from waking up every day to a report of another woman who has suffered at the hands of a man and a society that enabled him.
And it’s from this rage that the event was born. A platform for femmes, enbies and queers to make their statement in the world. An island in the storm where their agency, and safety are valued above all else.
We’re not just a place for women, but we are a place where femininity can be celebrated and embraced by everyone who attends.

All are welcome, but remember where you are
Leave your ego at the door.
Respect others.
Consent is gospel. It must be given verbally, enthusiastically, and can be withdrawn at anytime.
Party hard, party safe.
Take care of your friends.
Staff are there to help, not judge.
Have fun and embrace the moment. It’s a party remember?

FAQs
Is this event only for femmes, or LGBTQI+ people?
No! Motherbear is for everyone. We’re here to celebrate feminine energy, not exclude anyone from it. This includes you straight boys.
Motherbear is proudly welcoming of all people of all genders and sexualities, and was founded by a queer AFAB woman, and AMAB trans-nonbinary person.
Dickheads, racists, sexists, abelists, fascists, misogynists, homophobes, transphobes, predators, or people who express hateful views and discriminatory behaviour of any kind are never welcome.
Where is motherbear located?
Motherbear starts the night at LCKR Room, 95 Smith St, Fitzroy VIC 3065.
Past 1am (when the venues liquor licence runs out), we head upstairs and keep the party going with a take over of UBQ. UBQ can be accessed from within LCKR room via stairs in the venue, or the main entrance on Smith Street.
LCKR Room is currently obtaining their 3am liquor license. So we are hoping to be able to remain in LCKR room until the end of the night in the near future.
What kind of music do you play?
Generally our DJ’s will bring a mix of pop, and club dance mixes. You’ll hear a mix of classic club bangers and iconic pop remixes, as well as down and dirty bass house, tech house and slut pop. We also love encouraging our DJs to bring a bit of their own specialties to mix up the night.
Do you have performers? What are they like?
Yes we do! We generally have two performers throughout the night that will perform during DJ changeovers. We’ve had a wide range of performance styles, from drag kings, queens and non-binary legends, to burlesque and circus performers.
Be aware, some of our performances can involve intense themes and visuals such as brief nudity, fake blood, kink themes, and ‘adult’ props. If you want to come to Motherbear but are worried this might be a bit much for you, you’re more than welcome to hangout in the sitting area near the rear of the venue during the performances.
IS MOTHERBEAR WHEELCHAIR accessible?
LCKR room is on the ground floor and can be accessed wheelchair. Unfortunately, when their liquor licence runs out at 1am, we have to move upstairs to UBQ which is not wheelchair accessible.
LCKR room is currently applying for a 3am liquor license. When this is approved, we’ll be accessible by wheelchair all night. Please note LCKR room does not have an accessible toilet/bathroom, but does have 3 private small rooms with toilets.
If you have specific questions, we recommend getting in contact with the venue.
Do you have a dress code?
While we do occasionally theme our events, and encourage people to dress up to match, this is optional and we do not have a specific dress code. Otherwise, come in whatever makes you feel comfortable, powerful and sexy.
We are more than okay with exposed nipples on any person of any gender identity. Just be cautious to avoid close contact with anyone who may be uncomfortable with that.
Full nudity with exposed genitals is not permitted. This does not include our performers during their performances, who may be briefly naked if they choose to do so.
IS Motherbear a charity or not-for-profit event?
Motherbear is not a charity or not-for-profit event. However, we regularly have a charity aspect to our events, and in the past we have done charity raffles and purely non-for-profit versions of Motherbear.
We have donated money to a variety of organisations supporting women and queer people including Juno, WIRE and Switchboard Victoria. We are committed to continuing to have not-for-profit versions of Motherbear in the future to raise money for causes we believe in.
If you represent a charity and have ideas of how you’d like to work with us, please feel free to email motherbear.mlb@gmail.com, or by using the contact us form on this website, or by direct messaging one of our social media accounts.
Do you have A smokers area?
Yes, LCKR room has seating out the front of the venue for smoking and vaping. When we move upstairs to UBQ room at 1am, they have a dedicated balcony smokers area.
Do you allow alcohol and drug use?
LCKR room and UBQ are licensed venues with a bar, and alcohol consumption is allowed. No BYO.
Motherbear, LCKR room and UBQ comply with all relevant Australian and Victorian laws and regulations in regard to illicit substance use. Anyone found using, supplying or under the influence of illegal substances will be removed from the venue.
(Just be sensible okay?)
I’d love to DJ or perform at Motherbear! How do I do that?
We’re always looking for new faces to join our line-ups. If you think you have what it takes, then drop us an email at motherbear.mlb@gmail.com or use this websites contact us form. DJ’s should link us mixes of the sort of vibe they’d like to bring to Motherbear. Performers can link us to videos showing off their style.
Please note, at this time we are only working with cis women, members of the LGBTQI+ community, and people of color.
This isn’t to exclude, but to give a platform to people who don’t have as many opportunities in mainstream clubs and events. We trust that if you reach out you meet these requirements.
iS motherbear kink friendly?
In terms of dress code, yes. We love seeing a wide variety of latex, leather and other kink inspired looks. But Motherbear is not a kink event. Kink play is not permitted anywhere inside the venue.
How do you enforce safety at Motherbear?
Safety is, and always will be Motherbear’s number one priority. Anyone who violates this is not welcome at our events ever.
If an incident occurs on the night of Motherbear, and someone makes you feel unsafe, please immediately find a Motherbear staff member (who will be wearing pink lanyards with visible staff badges) or venue staff/security and let them know.
Anyone who poses a risk to the safety of Motherbear, it’s attendees or staff, will be removed from the venue.
Motherbear, and the venues we work with, reserve the right to remove, or deny entry to any person, at any time, for any reason within the law. Refunds will not be given if you are removed from the venue for safety reasons.
Feeling unsafe can include:
being touched without consent
someone pushing or violating your established boundaries
inappropriate comments being made about you, your body, or your outfit
someone expressing racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or generally hateful views and discriminatory behaviour
someone following you in or outside the venue, unwelcome staring, and aggressive or overly sexual body language
a person in the venue being overly intoxicated or under the influence of illicit substances
someone threatening or committing violent acts against you or another person
any behaviour from another person that continues after you’ve indicated you’re uncomfortable with it.
Remember, consent must be verbal, enthusiastic, given without being intoxicated and can be withdrawn at any time. Any person is capable of making another person feel unsafe regardless of gender, sexuality or pre-established relationship.
Does this mean you’ll kick me out for being awkward or making someone uncomfortable?
Both founders of Motherbear are veterans of nightlife, including queer spaces, and spaces that appeal to people who are not usually comfortable clubbing. We understand the difference between someone who is a bit awkward and/or doesn’t have great social awareness, and someone who is a genuine safety threat.
We will judge every situation individually. And we’ll take action that is appropriate to the circumstances. This can include:
having a gentle chat with the people involved, warning them and reminding them of the rules
removing someone from the venue for the night
temporarily or permanently banning someone from the event.
Someone made me feel unsafe at A PREVIOUS Motherbear, or I have concerns about someone who might attend, what can I do?
If you have concerns about a person or has attended or may attend, please email us at motherbear.mlb@gmail.com, or by using the contact us form on this website, or by direct messaging one of our social media accounts.
If based on the information you provide, we believe a person poses a threat to the safety of our attendees or staff, we will contact that person and make sure they know they are not welcome at Motherbear.
I have other questions, where can I ask?
If you have more questions, you can use the contact form on this website, email us directly at motherbear.mlb@gmail.com, or direct message one of our social media accounts and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
